   My first Valentino experience was this one, V (2005). The very first sniff is crisp Fig with Mandarin Orange peeking through, very much my kind of start. The opening is built around Fig and Mandarin Orange — bright and immediately recognizable. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   I picked up V (2005) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Rose with Freesia, which is where the fragrance really shines. That first spray gives a lovely Fig/Mandarin Orange impression that dries down smoothly. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about V. As it settles, Sandalwood and Ambergris come through and give it real depth. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Rose with Freesia, which is where the fragrance really shines. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.
