   XerJoff knows how to compose, and Apollonia (2019) is proof. The very first sniff is crisp White Flowers, very much my kind of start. The heart is the best part for me: Orris feel carefully balanced. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

   A friend passed me a decant of Apollonia (2019) and I wasn’t prepared for it. Right away I get mostly White Flowers, fresh and very easy to wear. The first minutes are all about White Flowers — it grabs attention without being pushy. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Apollonia. The heart is the best part for me: Orris feel carefully balanced. The base rests on White Musk — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I would happily buy a full bottle.

   Everyone keeps talking about Apollonia, so I finally gave it a proper test. Give it a little time and Orris comes forward — smooth and well done. That first spray gives a lovely White Flowers impression that dries down smoothly. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   I have owned Apollonia for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Orris, which is where the fragrance really shines. As it settles, White Musk come through and give it real depth. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.
