   A decant of Precious Oud sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. The first minutes are all about Pink Pepper with a hint of Bergamot — it grabs attention without being pushy. The drydown leans on Agarwood (Oud) plus Sandalwood and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.

   I picked up Precious Oud (2011) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The base rests on Agarwood (Oud) and Sandalwood — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The opening is built around Pink Pepper and Bergamot — bright and immediately recognizable. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   A friend passed me a decant of Precious Oud (2011) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The drydown leans on Agarwood (Oud) plus Sandalwood and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The very first sniff is crisp Pink Pepper with Bergamot peeking through, very much my kind of start. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   Van Cleef & Arpels knows how to compose, and Precious Oud (2011) is proof. Right away I get mostly Pink Pepper alongside Bergamot, fresh and very easy to wear. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

The drydown leans on Agarwood (Oud) plus Sandalwood and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

   For a 2011 release, Precious Oud deserves more attention than it gets. The opening is built around Pink Pepper and Bergamot — bright and immediately recognizable. That first spray gives a lovely Pink Pepper/Bergamot impression that dries down smoothly. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

The very first sniff is crisp Pink Pepper with Bergamot peeking through, very much my kind of start. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.
