   A decant of Blue Sugar sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. The very first sniff is crisp Mandarin Orange with Bergamot peeking through, very much my kind of start. The drydown leans on Star Anise plus Tonka Bean and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   I have owned Blue Sugar for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. That first spray gives a lovely Mandarin Orange/Bergamot impression that dries down smoothly. Right away I get mostly Mandarin Orange alongside Bergamot, fresh and very easy to wear. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.

   I picked up Blue Sugar (2006) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. As it settles, Star Anise and Tonka Bean come through and give it real depth. That first spray gives a lovely Mandarin Orange/Bergamot impression that dries down smoothly. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. The composition is well made but not for me.

   For a 2006 release, Blue Sugar deserves more attention than it gets. The first minutes are all about Mandarin Orange with a hint of Bergamot — it grabs attention without being pushy. The heart is the best part for me: Cotton Candy and Licorice feel carefully balanced. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.
