   I picked up Luna Rossa Black (2018) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The very first sniff is crisp Bergamot, very much my kind of start. The first minutes are all about Bergamot — it grabs attention without being pushy. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

   A couple of wears in, Luna Rossa Black has really grown on me. The very first sniff is crisp Bergamot, very much my kind of start. As it settles, Coumarin and Amber come through and give it real depth. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

   For a 2018 release, Luna Rossa Black deserves more attention than it gets. The drydown leans on Coumarin plus Amber and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Angelica with Patchouli, which is where the fragrance really shines. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Luna Rossa Black. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Angelica with Patchouli, which is where the fragrance really shines. The base rests on Coumarin and Amber — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.
